Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, one of the world’s most successful speed event skiers, faces another setback in his recovery journey. He acquired a shoulder infection after a crash in January during the Lauberhorn downhill in Wengen, Switzerland. Despite surgery and weeks of antibiotics, Kilde recently shared on Instagram that the infection has persisted.

“So when this becomes your most exciting part of the day, then yeah, where we are, it’s not quite Kitzbühel,” Aamodt Kilde remarked in his Instagram video, referring to his hospital bed rising as he prepares for additional treatment. The infection, which has plagued him since the initial operation on his injured shoulder, will require further medical intervention.

Aamodt Kilde’s injury from the Lauberhorn crash was severe, necessitating surgery that, unfortunately, exposed him to infection-causing bacteria. Despite recent treatment and an intensive regimen of antibiotics, the infection remains, forcing the Norwegian star back into the hospital.

“This feels like a never-ending story right now,” Aamodt Kilde expressed. “I have the perfect team around me, so we’ll get through it, but right now it’s a serious waiting game. I’ve got to just keep on fighting and doing the right things, and in the end, it’ll be okay. But right now, it’s a little bit of a battle.”

Aamodt Kilde has achieved significant milestones in his career, including one overall and three-season event World Cup titles (globes) and 21 World Cup victories. He has also earned two Olympic and two World Championship medals.

In addition to his fantastic career, Aamodt Kilde is engaged to Mikaela Shiffrin. His ongoing health challenges have undoubtedly added strain to what should be a joyful time in his personal life.

Aamodt Kilde stays determined to overcome this latest hurdle, though the path to full recovery presents many challenges. Despite these obstacles, he maintains a positive attitude, bolstered by what he describes as ‘the perfect team’ around him. This support helps him stay focused and determined to overcome the hurdles.

As he battles the infection, he focuses on healing and eventually returning to the sport he loves.

“I’ll hang in there and keep you guys posted. It’s not too bad,” Aamodt Kilde concluded in his message to fans, showcasing his resilience and positive attitude despite the circumstances.
