Crans-Montana: Weather derails Wed. training

Mar 05, 2008

CRANS MONTANA, Switzerland — Downhill training for a woman's World Cup, scheduled to kick off today, was postponed after several days extremely warm weather made the course too soft to run.

A cold front swept in Tuesday evening accompanied by snow that left about 6 inches on the upper part of the course. With temperatures falling and a brisk wind adding to the cooling, race officials were confident a training run would be possible Thursday morning.

Only three U.S. women will be starting here; Lindsey Vonn, Julia Mancuso and Stacey Cook. The other speed skiers, including Libby Ludlow, Leanne Smith, and Megan McJames will be competing in the NorAm finals at Lake Placid.
