Defago, Maze win in Verbier
Switzerland’s Didier Defago and Slovenia’s Tina Maze won the men’s and women’s pro divisions of the Verbier High Five in Switzerland this week.
Sponsored by Carlsberg, the “just-for-fun” event features giant slalom, parallel slalom, ski cross, speed skiing and a triathlon. Winners are determined by the highest number of cumulative points from each race.
Julia Mancuso was just four points shy of a win and took second as Didier Cuche was second for the men. The fields were star-studded with several of the World Cup’s best. Great Britain’s Chemmy Alcott was third for the women, followed by Lindsey Vonn, French world champion super G silver medalist Marie Arvier Marchand, Sylviane Berthod, Fraenzi Aufdenblatten and Marie Riesch, who missed the GS portion of the event.
On the men’s side, Mattias Hargin was third, followed by Sandro Viletta, William Besse, Andrew Myhrer, Yoan Jaquet and Thomas Vonn.
