Down Time Episode 6: Growing up Mancuso/Another level

Julia Mancuso’s journey from free-spirited young ski racer to Olympic champion has been defining in more ways than one for the 23-year-old. Mancuso’s mom, Andrea, says her daughter grew into a leader from a very young age, and living with an older sister meant nothing came easy, whether on the race hill or not. A crisis in her family when she was in Kindergarten may have helped spark the steely resolve seen in Julia today.
    Resi Stiegler hopes to take her skiing to another level this season, and her confidence was bolstered at the end of last season and during summer training in New Zealand. “Her focus has changed,” Stiegler’s coach, Patrick Riml, says. “Slalom is about consistency,” Resi says, adding that she can ski with the world’s best on any section of any course on the World Cup. Putting an entire race together from start to finish and standing atop the podium is the next goal.
