The Friday, February 10th men’s training run served as a time trial for the final USA start position for the men’s World Championship downhill. Due to outstanding in-season performances, Travis Ganong, Ryan Cochran-Siegle and Jared Goldberg had previously earned their right to compete.
Consequently, that left three competent skiers to fill the final position. Erik Arvidsson, Bryce Bennett, and Sam Morse competed for the right to start. Arvidsson was the fastest of the three. However, all six US athletes are on the start list for the final Saturday, February 10th training run.
Notably, Sunday will be Ganong’s final downhill appearance in a World Championship; he has announced his retirement effective at the end of the season. His fiancee Canadian Marie-Michele Gagnon, who has earned five World Cup podiums, has also announced her retirement at the end of the World Cup season.
