ESPN will debut a new behind-the-scenes docuseries exploring the pressure, risk, and human stakes of alpine ski racing, with On the Edge: World Cup Ski Racing premiering January 30 on the ESPN App and ESPN on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the United States.

The five-episode ESPN Original Series follows the world’s top alpine skiers through the 2025–26 Audi FIS Ski World Cup season and into the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. The series will also be available on Disney+ in select international markets.

Directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Pat Dimon and produced by Bright North USA and the International Ski & Snowboard Federation in partnership with the Stifel U.S. Ski Team and Team USA, On the Edge tracks Olympic champions and World Cup stars including Mikaela Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn, Marco Odermatt, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde as they navigate a demanding global season across Europe and North America.

Rather than focusing solely on race-day results, the series looks deeper into the realities of elite ski racing — early-morning training sessions, high-speed competition, injury rehabilitation, constant travel, and the mental strain of performing at the sport’s highest level with Olympic stakes looming.

Director Pat Dimon said the goal was to reveal what happens beyond the start gate and finish line. “On the Edge is about seeing past the polished surface and dropping into the real line of World Cup racing — the grind of travel, the toll of injuries, the pressure, and the mindset it takes to be and stay at that level,” Dimon said.

Dimon added that following athletes through an entire season allows the series to capture the human side of the sport as the Olympic countdown accelerates. “By following athletes like Mikaela Shiffrin, Marco Odermatt, Lindsey Vonn, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, and Lucas Pinheiro Braathen through a global season, the series captures the human side of the sport as they push toward the ultimate run of their careers: the Milano Cortina Olympic Games,” he said.

ESPN Originals Vice President and Executive Producer Lindsay Rovegno said the timing of the series reflects the intensity surrounding Olympic qualification and long-term careers. “As the countdown to the 2026 Winter Olympics begins, we’re excited to premiere On the Edge and bring viewers inside a sport defined by speed, precision, and risk,” Rovegno said. “The series highlights the compelling stories of Olympic hopefuls from around the world, whose careers and ambitions hang in the balance of a grueling World Cup season.”

FIS President Johan Eliasch said the series showcases both the evolution of alpine ski racing and the qualities that make it unique. “Set against some of the most dramatic landscapes in the world, this series tells the human stories behind the speed, risk and precision of World Cup racing — the dedication, resilience and passion that define our athletes far beyond the finish line,” Eliasch said.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO Sophie Goldschmidt said the project captures the edge at which athletes operate every time they compete. “Our athletes operate on the edge of human performance every time they step into the start gate, and this series captures the speed and risk required to chase Olympic dreams,” Goldschmidt said.
