The second and final women’s downhill training run before tomorrow’s World Cup race in Zauchensee, Austria, was cancelled early this morning (Jan. 10) due to new snowfall amounting upwards of 20 centimeters (nearly 8 inches) at the top of the course. Officials made the decision to work on preparing the hill for tomorrow’s race instead of rushing to get a final training run off for the women.

Four groomers were used to move the new snow to the sides of the trail while slip crews manually tended to the race line. Although conditions are expected to improve over the next 24 hours, race organizers note that temperatures may not fully cooperate. The current forecast calls for temperatures hovering around 5 degrees Celsius/41 Fahrenheit as early as tomorrow morning.

The downhill race is still scheduled to start tomorrow (Jan. 11) at 11:45 CET/5:45 ET followed by a super combined on Sunday (Jan. 12).
