Fog, Snow Cancel Second Sestriere downhill training

The second women’s downhill training run schedule for today (Jan. 28) in Sestriere, Italy was canceled due to fog and snowfall. About four inches of new snow fell overnight and continues to accumulate as fog brought visibility to zero in parts of the course.

Fortunately, yesterday’s training run met the FIS minimum requirement of one dress rehearsal on the slope before a World Cup downhill.

Competition is scheduled to begin tomorrow with the downhill, though initial forecasts are calling for similar conditions. A super combined is slated for Sunday Jan. 30.
