The CBC has reported that a former coach of junior ski racers in Canada is facing 47 charges related to the alleged sexual assault of female minors he supervised during travel between 1991 and 1998.

Bertrand Charest, a former coach with the Canadian national junior ski team, the Quebec Ski Team, Team Laurentians and the Mont-Tremblant Ski Club, has been charged in the sexual abuse of eight female athletes who were minors, between the ages of 14 and 16, when he accompanied them to training camps and competitions in Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia, France, Austria, New Zealand, and the U.S.

According to the CBC report, Charest was arrested and then released last Friday when the first victim came forward. He was then arrested again today and appeared in the St. Jerome courthouse this afternoon. Mont-Tremblant police believe there may be more victims, and Charest will remain in custody until his next court appearance Friday.

“We’ve had some information that other women might have been victims of Mr. Charest, but they didn’t come forward yet,” Eric Cadotte with Mont-Tremblant police told CBC. “When they’re ready to do so they can contact us at the police station and we will take their depositions.”

Charest is the co-founder of ThinkGlass based in Boisbriand, Quebec, but his name has been removed from the company’s website. He had previously been listed as the president of the business.
