From 15 World Cup Seasons to BBC’s Ski Sunday Star: Chemmy Alcott Joins the Skiing Is Believing Podcast

In episode 26 of the Skiing is Believing podcast’s summer series, Matt and Alan spoke to one of Britain’s best female ski racers of all time and former speed specialist, Chemmy Alcott.

Chemmy shared with Matt and Alan the sensational ups and downs she endured at various times throughout her career and the unbelievable number of injuries that hampered her career.

More specifically, she emphasized the true emotions of ski racing when, once recovering from an injury prior to the 2014 Sochi Olympics, she needed to produce a result in a FIS World Cup race in St. Anton. Tune into the episode to find out what happened and how shortly her career concluded after that event.

Chemmy also expressed her feelings about gender equality in ski racing and how she believes alpine ski racing is better than most sports.

She simultaneously highlighted the need for everybody to care for the planet from a climate perspective so we can continue to watch high-level alpine skiing all winter long. Chemmy has been an advocate for both of these issues, which are evidently being addressed across most sports.

Matt and Alan also asked Chemmy how she made the transition from an athletic, ski racing career into a broadcasting career. She told them that it wasn’t the smoothest transition, but she now feels that she is certainly getting to grips with it after several seasons. She has worked for the BBC network through two Winter Olympics and multiple seasons, presenting the 45-minute programs for Ski Sunday.
