Germany’s Luitz Undergoes Shoulder Surgery
After a fall in mid-January at the World Cup in Adelboden, Switzerland, Stefan Luitz injured his left shoulder. Late last week, the 26-year-old was successfully operated on at the Orthopedic Surgery Munich/Sana Clinic.
Dr. Claudius Zeiler, who performed the one-hour operation, refixed the shoulder joint socket with two screws.
“The operation was important because the joint remained unstable after dislocation,” said Dr. Zeiler after the procedure. “Assuming a favorable healing process, training on snow in about ten to twelve weeks is possible again.”
“For me as a competitive athlete, it’s important that your shoulder is one hundred percent stable again,” said Luitz. “And since I am currently unable to race due to the inner band tearing, I have decided to have the procedure performed now.”
Luitz will sit out the remaining races of the season and instead focus on a full recovery in time for the 2019-20 season.
