Getting her nine dollars worth

Getting her nine dollars worthWhen it’s time to leave the ski racing arena, it’s best to do it in style. Todd Lodwick opted for an early 1940s outfit for his last nordic combined race; Norwegian Olympic slalom gold medalist Finn Christian Jagge chose a tuxedo; Lasse Kjus dined on oysters and sipped champagne in the finish.

For the ever-flashy ex-USST member and UVM stalwart Hilary McCloy, nothing would do but ski-bunny-purple/pink. When McCloy sets her sights on a particular ‘look’ (in this case she had neon, day-glow pink one-piece on her mind), she is not to be denied.

A serendipitous discovery on eBay for the bargain-basement price of only $9 led to a truly fashionable exit from the sport for McCloy as she skied in her final race April 5 at Killington, Vermont. Racing without the benefit of those overrated ‘aerodynamics’ the UVM senior finished 20th in the race, but first in the Waxroom’s heart.
