NorAm racing continued today (March. 16) with snowy and foggy conditions in Whistler, B.C.. The men competed in a second giant slalom with the American’s sweeping the podium for the second straight day while the women were tested in their final slalom of the season.

The U.S. Ski Team’s Will Gregorak won by only four-hundredths of a second today sealing the overall NorAm giant slalom title and the World Cup starting slot that goes with it with 412 points on the season. Teammate Tim Jitloff, coming off of yesterday’s win, grabbed the second place spot finishing with a total time of 1:57.91.

American Tommy Biesemeyer rounded out the podium in third today finishing with a total time of 1:59.05. Jeffrey Frisch was the fastest Canadian on the day finishing in fourth.

The U.S. Ski Team’s Tommy Ford crossed the line in seventh place today, finishing in second in the overall NorAm giant slalom standings for the season behind Gregorak with 276 points.

On the women’s side, Canadian Erin Mielzynski won her second consecutive NorAm Cup slalom.

Mielzynski led following the first run after clocking a time of 51.16. Her two-run combined time of 1:44.68 was more than one and a half seconds ahead of her nearest challenger.

“Recently, I’ve just been trying to attack as hard as I can and go as hard as I can,” said the 22-year-old Mielzynski. “I think that today I brought myself closer to doing that. Obviously, the goal is to do that at World Cup events but it was a good day to practice and I think my aggression was where it needed to be.”

“I knew I could win again today, but I just tried to do what I needed to do and ski like I could. The added pressure makes it more difficult, but I think everyone here is just trying to put that aside until they get to the bottom.”

The second-fastest girl today was Canadian Madison Irwin who finished with a two-run combined time of 1:44.68.  Irwin was also the fastest girl in the junior category.

“It was really bumpy for everyone and really foggy,” said Irwin. “Overall I think my race was really good and I’m thrilled with my result.”

The fastest American was U.S. Ski Team’s Resi Stiegler who finished in third place with a time of 1:44.96.  Teammate Mikaela Shiffrin stayed hot a week after making her World Cup debut finished in fourth place, locking up the overall NorAm Cup slalom title with 399 points on the season to ensure her World Cup career continues.

U.S. Ski Team’s Kiley Staples grabbed the sixth place spot in today’s slalom and ended up second in the overall NorAm Cup slalom standings for the season with 299 points.

NorAm racing will continue tomorrow (March. 17) in Whistler, B.C. with a giant slalom on the women’s side and slalom for the men’s.
