Wengen race week carries a special weight in alpine ski racing and few athletes feel that pull more deeply than Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. This weekend the Norwegian speed star will not be stepping into the start gate on the legendary Lauberhorn.
In a thoughtful Instagram post Kilde shared why stepping back rather than rushing forward is the right decision at this stage of his comeback.
Wengen remains one of the most beautiful races on the calendar known for its atmosphere history and fans. But after nearly two years away from competition Kilde emphasized that preparation must come before emotion.
While racing is often described as the best form of training Kilde explained that using an entire day for just one competitive run along with the heavy logistical demands does not offer the repetition he needs right now. Instead he is prioritizing focused training days with his coaches where he can complete four five or six quality runs.
That repetition is critical in downhill racing where confidence speed and precision are built lap by lap.
A comeback season is never easy especially after a long absence from such a demanding discipline. Downhill racing requires patience respect and full preparation even for the most experienced athletes.
Kilde closed his message with a simple promise rather than a timeline.
“I will be back Wengen”- Kilde
For now the work continues away from the spotlight where some of the most important victories happen long before race day.
