Italian Downhill Lion Hanna Schnarf retires

Alpine skiing’s latest retirement is Italian, Hanna Schnarf, who has been representing the ‘Downhill Lion’s’ on the World Cup for the past 16 years. In 2018 (Schnarf’s last season), she ranked 16th in the downhill and eighth in the super G, her best overall results on the World Cup. She stood on the World Cup podium twice in her career, once in the 2010 Crans Montana downhill and again in the 2018 Cortina super G.

Schnarf took to Instagram took alert her fans of the announcement, writing in Italian, “I will miss this world, the adrenaline at the start, my companions, all the staff, the opponents. They have been intense years, full of emotions, with ups and downs, but I’m very grateful and proud of my journey.”

Originally, the 35-year-old had planned on announcing her retirement at World Finals in Cortina, Italy, surrounded by family and friends. Unfortunately her plans were thwarted by the coronavirus spread.
