A torrential downpour Saturday night left many a doubt in the minds of the competitors gathered at Waterville Valley, NH March 8 before the J3-Eastern Junior Olympics were even begun. But temperatures plummeted overnight and the well trained WVV hill crew whipped the World Cup hill into excellent condition for the opening slaloms Sunday.
    Makenzie Brown and Catherine Mullin battled hard for the women's win with Brown's first run margin holding up over an amazing second run from Mullin for a two-tenths margin. The two were three seconds ahead of Emily Hayes in third.
    Sandy Vietz used his second run to advantage to overtake Drew Stefanic for the men's win with Benjamin Goley in third.
