SPYDER, one of the most recognized and respected brands of high-performance, technically oriented skiwear and outerwear in the world, promoted president and COO Jake Jacobs to the position of CEO and president. Jacobs assumes the role of CEO from David Jacobs, the company’s founder and his father, who will remain the company’s chairman of the board.
Spyder is experiencing strong growth. The company has achieved a five-year annual CAGR of 30 percent, even within a slow-to-flat growth industry. With Jake Jacobs’s guidance as president over the past two years, he’s positioned the company for continued expansion, including the addition of a year-round product offering and launching a business strategy that includes future flagship retail stores.
There would not be a Spyder brand without Jake Jacobs’ direct influence. In 1977, when he was a teenage ski racer, he brought home a padded racing sweater from Argentina and presented it to his father. Recognizing that only one manufacturer of such a sweater existed, David Jacobs set out to build a better product and marketed it to the tightly knit race community. Continually building on its initial success, Spyder is now the world’s leading skiwear brand, manufacturing more than 800 styles annually.
“Jake presented the spark that started Spyder,” said the senior Jacobs. “It’s fitting that the story came full circle, with Jake leading the company he inspired. Jake has the ability and talent to lead Spyder to the next level of success.”
Spyder revolutionized ski apparel in 1978 with a padded slalom sweater designed "for racing, by racers." Renown for integration of high-tech fabrication, fashion and function, Spyder products are the choice of the U.S. alpine and Canadian alpine and freestyle World Cup teams.
Based in Boulder, Colorado, Spyder apparel is distributed in more than 50 countries worldwide.
