Carlo Janka is poised to win his third straight race after the first run of the men’s GS at Beaver Creek Sunday, Dec. 6, holding a quarter of a second lead over Austrian Benjamin Raich and three-quarters of a second over teammate Didier Defago in third. American Ted Ligety got a ski in the air off the Screech Owl and sits fourth,  more than a second off the pace.

The race started in a light snowfall that got progressively heavier as the run played out making visibility much more difficult for later racers. Just one skier starting past 20 made the top 10, that being Gauther DeTessieres of France who made it to tenth.

Jake Zamansky was the only other American to earn a second run, finishing 30th. Canada will get two second run starters, Jeffrey Frisch who finished 23rd and Jean-Philippe Roy, 26th.
