Switzerland’s Carlo Janka suffered a ligament tear in his right knee during giant slalom training on Tuesday.

“The rupture is definitely a setback,” he said. “We will treat the injury conservatively for the time being.”

The athlete is now on his way home and will start intensive rehabilitation. The Swiss Ski Federation will release more information about his course of treatment as it becomes available.

Janka finished the 2016-17 season ranked 12th in the overall standings and seventh in the downhill standings. He was the 2009 World Champion in giant slalom and won gold in the giant slalom at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
