Jimmy Krupka undergoes surgery after crash
U.S. Ski Team athlete Jimmy Krupka suffered a season-ending injury in the super G at Santa Catarina, Italy, on Tuesday. He sustained a boot-top tibia fibula fracture, requiring surgery. Following the accident, Krupka was transferred to Innsbruck, Austria, where he underwent a successful surgery.
Krupka, a former NorAm super G winner and Junior World Championship team member, has steadily been rising in super G and GS. The 22-year-old finished fifth in the GS at U.S. Nationals earlier this year, and has been competing on the Europa Cup circuit this season. Krupka is returning to the U.S. for rehabilitation.
