The Europa Cup men’s technical squad continued what is developing as a strong season with another multiple skier scoring effort in a GS in Kirchberg, Austria today (Jan. 15).

Tim Jitloff put in the strongest effort with a fourth place place finish and the fastest second run. He was .07 of a second off a podium finish. Frenchman Alexis Pinturault got the win by an impressive 1.09 seconds margin over Italian racer Giovonni Borosotti and his teammate Florian Eisath edged Jitloff off the podium.

Other American results included Tommy Ford in 13th and Warner Nickerson in 21st.

Canada also sent a full group, but only Jean-Philippe Roy tallied Cup points in 24th place.

Jitloff moved into 17th place in the Europa Cup GS rankings with the race.

In memoriam: The veteran of the staff, McKee started with Ski Racing in 1980. Over the seasons, he covered virtually every aspect of the sport, from the pro tours to junior racing, freestyle and World Cup alpine competition. He wrote the first national stories for many U.S. team stars, and was still around to report on their retirements. “Longevity has its rewards,” he said, “but it’s a slow process.”
