Jit’s Journal: Moving on

After a strong training session going into Sölden I felt I was ready to go for the race itself. Mentally and physically, I was feeling strong. I had all the preparation necessary. But when it came time to perform, I couldn’t get it together. I simply wasn’t myself on the racecourse, and it showed in my skiing. … I left the glacier frustrated and disappointed in myself.
AFTER A STRONG training session going into Sölden, I felt I was ready to go for the race itself. Mentally and physically, I was feeling strong. I had all the preparation necessary. But when it came time to perform, I couldn’t get it together. I simply wasn’t myself on the racecourse, and it showed in my skiing.
I found myself unable to get into the rhythm, and between not seeing any of the ruts because of the flat light and being bounced around from the roughness of the course, I ended up outside of the top 30. I left the glacier frustrated and disappointed in myself. I had a lot of personal expectations going into the race, and now that it’s over I wish I could go back and re-do it. I simply forgot to focus on the skiing that I know. With that said, it’s time to move on.
I recognize that I failed in Sölden, but I also recognize that I will have more battles to fight, and soon. This certainly isn’t the first time I’ve messed up and it won’t be the last time either. Now it is time to go back to the drawing board and regroup. I will spend some more time in Sölden training slalom with the guys going to Levi and then spend a few more days resting in Switzerland before flying to Colorado to prepare for the NorAms and World Cups there. The circus rolls on and so do I.
