Jit's Journal: Summer Sun
Jit’s Journal: Summer Sun
As I lay in the starfish position on Coronado beach I remember all the cold days of this past winter. All the memories of waiting at the start freezing my butt off, and dreaming of the days that I would return back to sunny San Diego. That’s right, San Diego. I would like to say that I am down here on a vacation, but really it’s a mix between a physical fitness camp and brief moments of happiness at the beach. I am currently a resident at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. One word is all you need to describe this warm and peaceful place: Heaven.
The OTC is a place where athletes of every Olympic sport come to get a complete training block in during their time away from competition. The facility is a world in and of itself, providing athletes with everything they need to become champions. A massive weight room, Olympic track, private lake, fields for all sports, housing, and of course endless amounts of food make up the facility.
It is here in San Diego that I can fully clear my mind of anything ski racing and refresh my body for the coming winter. For a majority of the year I am in the mountains so it is nice to come down here and get some much-needed time in the ocean and on the beach. Now I can finally allow my entire face to get sunburned instead just one half, and my feet get valuable therapy in the warm sands.
However all good things must come to an end. Soon I will rejoin my teammates in Park City, Utah where we are all meeting up to do some summer physical testing. It is here that you will be introduced to the names and faces that make up our squad.
Once again welcome to my new column, Train hard and have fun.
