March 22, 2023 – Denver, CO – The New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) again joins forces with the World Pro Ski Tour (WPST) for a second year as a partner in the 2023 Taos World Championships.

With New Mexico’s iconic mountain terrain serving as a perfect backdrop, the WPST World Championships will be held at Taos Ski Valley March 30-April 1, 2023. New Mexico will be featured in seven television shows generated from Taos Ski Valley during the World Championships event, with a specific vignette set to highlight the beautification and litter reduction initiatives of the Keep New Mexico True campaign.

“A concerted effort to preserve and protect New Mexico’s public lands will better ensure New Mexico remains a premier destination for outdoor recreation and adventure,” said Tourism Secretary Jen Paul Schroer. “New Mexico continues to demonstrate its commitment to destination stewardship through strategic partnerships like the World Pro Ski Tour.”

Alongside New Mexico Tourism and Taos Ski Valley, the WPST Taos World Championships will offer super slalom and giant slalom races for men and women to compete for a first prize of $20,000 per race and a $25,000 bonus for each male and female overall World Champion. Competitors include two-time Olympic gold medalist, Ted Ligety, World Champion, Olympian and FIS World Championships gold medalist, Paula Moltzan, FIS World Championships gold medalist and Taos Ski Valley-sponsored athlete, River Radamus, World Champion and Olympian Erik Read of Canada, and many more of the world’s top ski racers fighting for equal podium prize money for men and women. As part of its B Corp commitment, Taos will be offsetting all the carbon associated with the World Championships event, and for Radamus’ travel associated with all his ski racing this season.

“The World Pro Ski Tour is thrilled to have New Mexico Tourism back as a partner for this world-class event,” says Jon Franklin, CEO of the WPST. “We bring the world’s best athletes, from Olympic gold medalists, World Cup athletes, NCAA All-Americans and more, to our WPST Taos World Championships, and we love to share New Mexico Tourism’s initiatives, landscape and hospitality to our spectators around the globe.”
