U.S. SKI TEAMER JESSICA KELLEY clocked the second-fastest time in the second run to power past teammate and first-run leader Megan McJames and win a Super Series NorAm giant slalom race Thursday at Winter Park, Colorado.
Kelley’s unofficial winning time was 1 minute, 59.09 seconds. Her second-run time of 59.88 seconds was topped only by Sweden’s Therese Borssen, who clocked 59.33 to climb from 19th place to sixth.
Croatia’s Ana Drev finished second in 1:59.50, and Canada’s Brigitte Action finished third in 1:59.90.
Kelley finished 22nd in the World Cup GS last weekend in Aspen.
McJames, who made her World Cup debut last weekend in Aspen, carried a slim 0.17-second lead into the second run but struggled on the bottom section of the course and clocked 1:59.93 to finish just off the podium in fourth place.
Janyk wins at Keystone
The American men did not fare as well. Canadian Michael Janyk collected the final race of the NorAm Super Series at Keystone, edging Austrian Alexander Koll with a blazing first run of slalom and a two-run margin of .08 seconds. Tom Rothrock led the U.S. men for the second straight day, this time winding up ninth. Cody Marshall showed strong promise with a 13th-place finish.
Picking up the last podium position was Gaetan Llorch just ahead of French teammate Alexandre Anselmet, who finished fourth. The race featured 23 first-run DNFs, leaving room for skiers with bibs in the 40s to gain NorAm points.
