Head Coach – KSEF U10 Alpine Race Team

Position Overview

The U10 Head Coach is a pivotal role within the Kirkwood Ski Education Foundation (KSEF), responsible for leading our youngest alpine racers (ages 7-9) into the competitive racing environment. Reporting directly to the Athletic Director, with a dotted line to the Program Administrator, this position oversees athlete development, safety, training consistency, and program integrity at Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Athlete Welfare

  • Prioritize athlete and coach safety both on and off the mountain, implementing rigorous safety standards in line with KSEF policies.
  • Regularly conduct and oversee safety and training sessions with all U10 coaching staff, emphasizing proactive safety measures and preparedness.

Athlete Development and Coaching

  • Deliver structured training programs that emphasize ski racing fundamentals, technique refinement, and race etiquette.
  • Facilitate training sessions focused on gate training, skill-specific drills, guided free skiing, and appropriate dryland activities.
  • Provide individualized coaching, monitoring each athlete’s progress, and ensuring their continuous development towards competitive ski racing.
  • In house, skills quest quarterly assessments for all athletes. One to be completed at the beginning of the year, two assessments during the season and one at the end of the season.

Program and Race Management

  • Manage athlete participation in the Far West Race Series and Tahoe Race Series, ensuring proper race preparation, athlete readiness, and positive competitive experiences.
  • Foster a supportive, team-oriented atmosphere that builds confidence, camaraderie, and sportsmanship among young racers.

Communication and Administration

  • Lead all U10 Team communications, adhering strictly to KSEF Media and Social Media Policies.
  • Maintain consistent, clear, and professional communication with athletes, families, coaching staff, and KSEF leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with the Program Administrator to manage payroll and expenses, ensuring alignment with approved KSEF budgets.
  • Communication with parents, through the team app, on Mondays outlining the upcoming week’s schdule.
  • Communicate with parents, through the team app, on Sundays concluding the weekends training the feedback regarding skiing technique and mental progress.
  • Communication and guidance to parents and athletes regarding race schedules and registration.

Equipment Management

  • Ensure all athletes possess approved, properly fitted racing equipment as outlined by KSEF guidelines.
  • Provide expert guidance to families regarding appropriate equipment selection and sizing, assisting during equipment purchase opportunities like the Annual Blue Zone Sports Team Day.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of USSS Level 100 Certification.
  • Proven experience in youth ski coaching and alpine race training programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and develop a coaching team.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
