American ski racing star Lindsey Vonn was honored by Glamour Magazine on Monday night (Nov. 8) at the 20th Annual Glamour Women of the Year awards ceremony in New York City.

Vonn, an Olynpic gold medalist and three-time World Cup overall champion, was given the publication’s Game Changer award along with fellow women athletes soccer player Mia Hamm and women’s basketball legend Lisa Leslie.

“You can do anything that you dream to do,” Vonn told her young female fans in her acceptance speech. “Just work hard and anything is possible.”

In it’s 20th year, the event is aimed at honoring women who excel in everything from fashion and the arts to politics and sports.

“There’s profound data showing that girls who play sports have higher self-esteem and greater confidence, and are more successful in their careers,” says Kathryn Olson, CEO of the Women’s Sports Foundation.

“For women today, there are no limits. We play hard, get down and dirty, and kick butt,” Vonn told Galmour.com. “And we’re going to set new and higher standards for the female athletes of the future.”

Vonn then hopped a plane to Levi, Finland to compete in the World Cup slalom opening event Saterday Nov. 13.
