California-based goggle and sunglasses maker, Oakley, Inc. announced yesterday (Oct. 26) that they had reached an agreement with American ski racing superstar Lindsey Vonn.
“I am thrilled to be with a brand so passionate about optics and protection,” said Vonn in an Oakley release. “Oakley meets all my needs with a range of lens tints, and so much more. Medals are decided by hundredths of a second, so I need assurance that my vision is perfect every time I compete, no matter what the conditions.”
Vonn, a Vail, Colo. native and Olympic gold medalist who was previously competing in Uvex goggles, made the switch at the 2011 World Cup season opening race last weekend in Soelden, Austria. She also transitioned from Uvex helmets to Briko, though Red Bull remains her headgear sponsor.
“We are excited to have Lindsey join a team of world-class athletes that depend on our optics to compete at their best,” said Scott Bowers, Oakley Senior VP of Marketing. “She represents unrivaled skill and unique style, and that combination makes her a perfect fit for the Oakley brand.”
Oakley rejoined the U.S. Ski Team athlete equipment pool in late September after abandoning the racing industry to focus on their huge success in the winter freeride world.
Vonn joins winter legends Shaun White and Daron Rahlves on the Oakley pro team, she is the only current alpine racer on the Oakley pro team.
