Renowned ski racing figures Martina Sailer and Sarah Schleper proudly announce their collaboration as they prepare to lead the 2024 Erich Sailer Ski Racing Camp at Mt. Hood, Oregon. The summer ski camp, now in its remarkable 33rd consecutive year on Palmer Snowfield, stands as a testament to the enduring legacy started by Erich Sailer and his mentor, Pepi Gabl, with the support of Timberline’s then-owner Richard L. Kohnstamm, on Mt. Hood in 1956.

Having forged a strong partnership through years of racing and working together, Sailer and Schleper are poised to continue the tradition of excellence established by Erich, Pepi, and Richard. Erich’s inaugural camp was initially tailored for the U.S. Ski Team. Since the beginning, thousands of aspiring racers have honed their skills at his camps across Oregon, Montana, Colorado, and Austria.
There are numerous distinguished individuals who have attended this camp including Lindsey Vonn, Paula Moltzan, Julia Mancuso, Sarah Schleper, Isaiah Nelson, Michael Ankeny, Kristina Koznick, Tasha Nelson, and Camden Palmquist, among many others.
Six-time Olympian Sarah Schleper’s journey with Erich Sailer began at the legendary Red Lodge Summer Ski Racing Camps on Beartooth Pass when Schleper was ten. Recounting her early experiences, Schleper shares, “I was not good. I was in group 5 and had never really raced before. But my Pa grew up attending Erich’s camps, and he sent me to 3 weeks of Erich’s camp with my little brother, and I never looked back. I loved it so much, and Erich became my coach, friend, and mentor for many years, and he still is.”
Martina Sailer, Erich’s daughter, recalls meeting Sarah, “I remember my dad telling me that ‘I got one for you,’ referring to Sarah’s carefree and fun spirit. We quickly became close friends despite being opposites in everything but our love for ski racing and tenacity. Back then, I was a top junior, and she copied everything I did until she handily beat me and went on to have an incredible ski racing career!”

Erich Sailer expresses his joy at the prospect of his daughter and Sarah carrying forward his legacy. He stated, “The key to success is repetition and top pacesetter coaches. Martina and Sarah know how to run the best camps using my formula, and I am excited to see what the two do together this summer. I am so proud of Sarah and Martina.”
The 2024 Erich Sailer Ski Racing Camp starts June 8th through the 19th at Mt. Hood, Oregon.
