Tuesday morning, the Swedish three-time Olympian, Mattias Hargin, announced his plans to retire after World Cup finals in Soldeu, Andorra.

The slalom specialist plans to participate in the team event one last time before calling it quits, meaning he will miss the final slalom races that will take place over the weekend.

“I have always believed in myself, but have now come to a point where I feel I don’t have what it takes to win races anymore. So it’s time to make a change, time to find a new challenge in life,” Hargin wrote in his Instagram post.

Over the course of his 15-year career on the World Cup circuit, Hargin has podiumed in seven World Cup events, been victorious in the Kitzbuehl slalom, and contributed to two Alpine Team Event golds and one bronze for the Swedes.

“Mattias is one of the most passionate skiers I know. With his energy and his passion for skiing, he has not only become an inspiration for many Swedish racing riders but also gained great respect on the free-riding scene. It has been a privilege to work with such a dedicated skier,” said Tommy Eliasson, the Swedish Alpine Team Manager.

Hargin will retire alongside his long-time teammate, Frida Hansdotter, another slalom veteran that plans on wrapping up a 15-year career after finals in Soldeu.
