Swiss watch brand Longines awarded the annual Longines Rising Ski Stars award to Swiss sister and brother duo Melanie and Loic Meillard, who have distinguished themselves as the best female skier (under 21) and the best male skier (under 23) of the overall FIS Alpine World Cup 2017-18 standings. The siblings earned the prize for the first time, and both received a Longines timepiece and a trophy as well as a check.
With a former speed skier as their father, Melanie and Loic have found their form in the technical disciplines this season with 19-year-old Melanie claiming third place in the city event in Oslo, Norway, and Loic taking fourth place in giant slalom in Are as their best 2017-18 FIS World Cup season results. Melanie was set to make her Olympic debut in PyeongChang, but injured her knee just days ahead of competition.
Past winners of the award include Henrik Kristoffersen, Mikaela Shiffrin, and Alexis Pinturault.
