At the completion of every regular World Cup season, the best 25 in each discipline are invited to compete in their event at the World Cup Finals. The FIS also invites the reigning FIS World Junior Champion to compete in their discipline. This season’s men’s downhill junior champion is Slovenia’s, Rok Aznoh. Assuming he decides to race in Soldeu it will be his first World Cup downhill start. He did, however, competed in the 2021 Lech / Zuers World Cup parallel.

Also, the overall title contenders with 500 points or more points can compete in all the events. As it stands at the moment, this season, there are five of those who have yet to race downhill who are eligible. However, it is unlikely they will. Also, Marco Schwarz, currently ranked 31st in downhill, has 634 points and could and likely will race the downhill. Notably, the 10th and 11th-ranked 2023 downhillers retired mid-season and will not compete.

Ages of the best 25

The average age of the best 25 men’s downhill skiers of the season is 31.1 years old. Notably, three of them are only 25. The youngest among the 25 best is Switzerland’s, Marco Odermatt. The oldest is France’s Johan Clarey, who is 42. The other two 25-year-olds are Canadians, James Crawford and Cameron Alexander. Notably, the average age of the two 2022-23 World Cup downhill winners was 30.5 and the average age of the top 10 is 30.3 and two are 25.

The Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has won six 2022-23 downhills and Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr has won three. No other nation was able to earn a men’s downhill victory. However, the twenty-five-year-old Swiss skier Marco Odermatt won the 2023 Courchevel World Championship downhill.

North Americans

It took 82 downhill World Cup points this season to qualify for the finals. Canadians James Crawford (5th), and Cameron Alexander (24th), along with Stiffel US Alpine Team members Travis Ganong (12th), Ryan Cochran-Siegle (16th), and Jared Goldberg (21st), are the North American downhillers who have qualified for World Cup finals.

The men’s World Cup downhill final is scheduled for March 15th in Soldeu, Andorra.

Norway’s Kilde will arrive at the finals, having earned the men’s downhill World Cup season title. He has an unsurmountable 206-point advantage over the Austrian, Kriechmayr.

Due to the limited field size, only the top 15 finishers earn World Cup points at the World Cup finals.
