Who is racing, when are they racing, and how to watch
Women’s super-G has been one of the most competitive disciplines of the 2022-23 World Cup. Tomorrow February 8th the women will compete to be World Champion on Meribel’s Roc de Fer.
There have been five women’s super-G races with five winners from four nations this season. Of the 15 possible podiums, only five athletes have two top-three finishes. Italy has two athletes with multiple super-G podiums, Austria has one, Norway has one and Switzerland has one. None of the women have earned three.
Most likely the winner will come from the super-G discipline leaders
Mikaela Shiffrin is the best hope for a North American podium. Shiffrin won the first super-G she entered this season and was 7th in her only other. However, she is impressive and should be skiing with a clear head, limited expectations and focus only on skiing her best. It could be the right recipe for a podium appearance. Although a victory is unlikely, it would surprise no one if it happened.
North American entries
North American teams have six women entered. The Stifel US Alpine Team has four starting and Alpine Canada Alpin has two. Five of the North Americans competing have scored World Cup super-G points this season. Notably, USA Independent Tricia Mangan is the only NA athlete racing who has yet to score World Cup points in super-G.
