The day after her fall in the giant slalom in Killington, Mikaela Shiffrin’s diagnosis has been announced. The US ski star is temporarily out of action.

She had her 100th World Cup victory firmly in her sights. However, the anniversary party at the home giant in Killington (USA) was not going to happen for women’s dominator Mikaela Shiffrin (29). The super skier was leading after the first run and was on course for victory in the second run – then she fell on the steep slope and landed in the safety fence.

She remained lying there for several minutes before being taken away. “There is no great cause for concern; I just can’t move,” she reports from the hospital. On Sunday morning US time, the US association announced the diagnosis. “She has a puncture wound in the right side of her abdomen and a serious muscle injury,” the US Ski Team writes on X.

Return to the World Cup is still open

The good news: “No damage to the ligaments was found. And the bones and internal organs are fine.”

Shortly after the fall, Shiffrin explained that she had felt “something stung.” The 99-time World Cup winner was transported away in a rescue sled after her fall.
