Mikaela Shiffrin, the celebrated alpine ski champion, has been navigating a challenging path of recovery and comeback. In a recent interview, she shed light on her journey. Despite setbacks and uncertainties, Shiffrin’s unwavering resolve shines through as she shares her experiences of battling injury and supporting her boyfriend through his own recovery.

“Training has been a race against time,” Shiffrin reflects, acknowledging her uphill battle in preparing for the Åre World Cup slalom amidst limited sessions. “I’ve had three sessions of slalom in the past seven weeks that were remotely close to normal,” she explains, highlighting the intensity of her struggle.


She has navigated through her recovery meticulously, guided by medical criteria and symptom limitations.”I can only do what I can do,” Shiffrin emphasizes, expressing her determination to follow the prescribed path despite the challenges. “It’s been symptom limited,” she adds, underscoring the careful balance between progress and restraint.

“The parallel journeys of recovery have brought us closer,” Shiffrin reveals, speaking of her boyfriend’s injury. “We’ve leaned on each other for support,” she adds, highlighting the strength of their bond amidst adversity.

Looking ahead, Shiffrin remains focused on her comeback, setting her sights on the World Cup finals. “I’m determined to make my mark on the slopes once again,” she declares, her determination unwavering despite the challenges. “It’s time to stop the bleed,” she asserts, reflecting on her decision to focus on her recovery and return to competition.
