Murphy Roberts Holiday Classic Returns to Steamboat Springs Dec. 18-21, 2024
Night Slalom and Festival Shine Under the Lights at Howelsen Hill on Friday, Dec. 20
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – The Murphy Roberts Holiday Classic will bring top alpine ski racers to Steamboat Springs from Dec. 18-21, 2024. Racers from across the U.S. and nearly 20 other nations will compete in one of the country’s most exciting FIS events.
The competition begins with giant slalom races on Wednesday and Thursday at Steamboat Ski Resort’s All Out course. It then shifts to slalom races at Howelsen Hill on Friday and Saturday, including the iconic night slalom and festival on Friday night.
The festival under the lights at Howelsen Hill offers close-up action, lively commentary, and a festive atmosphere with firepits and hot drinks. Women’s second run begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s at 6:45 p.m.. This year’s event features a record $40,000 prize purse, the largest in its history.
Steamboat’s own Grosdidier sisters headline the event:
- Tatum Grosdidier, a U.S. Ski Team member, recently placed 12th in a Nor-Am slalom race and is a rising star in the sport.
- Riley Grosdidier, an NCAA racer for Dartmouth College, continues to build on her strong performances in collegiate and FIS competitions.
- Logan Grosdidier, a U18 FIS skier with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC), represents the next generation of elite alpine racers from Steamboat.
They will be joined by other U.S. Ski Team members and SSWSC alumni competing at the NCAA level.
Spectators are encouraged to bring cowbells and enjoy the show. Admission is free and open to the public. For schedule updates, live stream links, and more information, visit www.sswsc.org.

A Tradition of World-Class Racing
“The Murphy Roberts Holiday Classic has been a part of Steamboat Springs for decades, and it’s an honor to host such a prestigious event,” said the SSWSC Alpine Program Director. “Athletes love competing under the lights on Friday night, and this event is a highlight of the season for both the racers and the community. Our FIS athletes work year-round to prepare for this level of competition, and we are thrilled to showcase their talent right here at home.”
Honoring Murphy Roberts
The event honors Murphy Roberts, a former SSWSC athlete who passed away in 2016 at age 22. The Roberts family created the Murphy Roberts Scholarship to honor his memory.
During the awards ceremony on Dec. 20, the $1,000 scholarship will go to the athlete who best demonstrates passion for alpine skiing, enthusiasm, and team spirit—the traits Murphy embodied.
