NBC SPORTS will broadcast a 90-minute program covering the 2007 World Alpine Ski Championships Feb. 17. Opening ceremonies for the championships, set in Are, Sweden, are  scheduled Feb. 2. The title meet concludes with team competitions Feb. 18.
“NBC Sports is thrilled to be broadcasting the 2007 World Alpine Ski Championships from Are Sweden,” said producer John McGuinness. “NBC will air taped highlights of the championships on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Eastern time. Tim Ryan, Todd Brooker and Steve Porino will call the action.”
McGuinness noted that this will make five consecutive World Championships that NBC Sports has covered, dating back to the 1999 championships held at Vail/Beaver Creek.
The commentators list indicates NBC Sports will go with a veteran lineup reflecting the award-winning product put together by the alpine group at the Torino Olympics.
“As America’s Olympic network, NBC Sports is always trying to showcase Olympic stars,” McGuinness said. “Torino gold medalists Julia Mancuso and Ted Ligety are having outstanding seasons. And Bode Miller has shown the world that he is once again a force on the slopes.”
In Are, officials are noting the town was buried in 30 centimeters of fresh snow overnight on Jan. 17, with additional snow forecast.
