PANORAMA, B.C. — Jessica Kelley and Libby Ludlow finished 1-2 on Friday in a snowy giant slalom at NorAm Finals as U.S. skiers filled eight of the top 10 places.
Kelley, a two-time NorAm GS champion, was timed in 2 minutes 11.89 seconds with Ludlow second in 2:12.41 in the first of two giant slaloms. Also in the top five were Caitlin Ciccone fourth and Leanne Smith, the new NorAm super G champion, in fifth place.
In the men's next-to-last slalom, Kilian Albrecht — the former Austrian who was fourth in slalom at the 2002 Olympics and trained years ago with the Green Mountain Valley School program but now skis for Bulgaria — won in 1:32.60. Canadian Patrick Biggs, whose alma mater, Dartmouth College, won the recent NCAA Ski Championships for the first time in 31 years, was second in 1:32.72. Tim Kelley, Jessica's younger brother, was third in 1:32.79.
The top two finishers in NorAm points earn automatic start spots in World Cup next season. Both the women's GS and men's slalom berths are still open with one race remaining. The season ends Saturday
