Northwood School Looks to Hire a Director of Snowsports

Position Overview

Location: Northwood School, Lake Placid NY 

Northwood School is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Snowsports to lead and enhance its elite on-snow program. This individual will provide leadership in three primary areas: recruiting, student-athlete development, and college guidance. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of competitive alpine skiing, a strong network within the ski racing community, and the ability to foster a culture of excellence. Also, the hired candidate will work to continue the success of the Nordic program. This position works in partnership with the New York Ski Education Foundation and Whiteface Mountain.

Key Responsibilities

Recruiting, Program, and Student-Athlete Development

• Collaborate with team staff, NYSEF coaches, and the admissions office to recruit top-tier student-athletes.
• Develop and maintain recruiting pipelines, targeting families that align with Northwood’s enrollment and financial goals.
• Lead and develop strength and conditioning programming. 
• Work closely with the Marketing, Communications, and Admission Office to enhance Northwood’s brand visibility and attract prospective student-athletes.
• Plan and execute recruiting events to showcase Northwood’s snow program and engage potential students and families.

Student-Athlete Development

• Foster and maintain a positive, productive, and motivating team culture that aligns with Northwood’s core values and mission. 
• Partner with Northwood and NYSEF coaching staff to create individualized development plans and assess athlete progress.
• Foster an environment that supports both academic and athletic excellence.

College Ski Guidance & Advancement

• Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with College Directors to facilitate the recruitment process for Northwood on-snow athletes.
• Guide student-athletes through the college recruitment process, helping them identify the best fit for their academic and athletic goals.

Qualifications & Skills

• Extensive coaching and leadership experience in competitive alpine skiing.
• Strong network within the snow sports racing and collegiate community.
• Proven ability to recruit and develop high-performing student-athletes.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments, staff, and external partners.

Compensation & Benefits

As a full-time faculty member, the Director of Snowsports will have access to the current benefits provided by the school.
