The Norwegian Ski Team took another blow with the announcement that Bjarne Solbakken will not race this season.
Solbakken, one of a handful of skiers the Norges ski team was hoping to replace the retired Lasse Kjus and injured Kjetil Aamodt with, has undergone surgery in a Calgary, Alberta, hospital after rupturing his cruciate knee ligament in a training crash at Lake Louise on Tuesday, Nov. 21. He is not expected to return this season.
Solbakken, 29, had a blazing fast start to the 2004 season when he collected his only career win, at Beaver Creek in super G, following up a second-place finish in downhill the same weekend.
