LAKE PLACID, New York — Norway’s Anette Sagen routed the field Tuesday in the first of two Continental Cup women’s ski jumping events in the former Olympic host city, compiling 255 points with leaps of 97 and 97.5 meters to outdistance tour leader Daniela Iraschko.
Sagen, who moved up to second place in the Continental Cup standings after the victory, now has won three straight events at Lake Placid dating back to 2005.
Iraschko sailed 91 meters on both of her attempts and scored 227 points to hold off Canada’s Katie Willis, who uncorked an 86-meter jump in round two to climb from fourth to third place in the final results. Germany’s Jenna Mohr finished fourth.
The U.S. team was led by Jessica Jerome in fifth place. Jerome jumped 87.5 meters in round two to rally from 10th place. Avery Ardovino finished sixth.
Brenna Ellis was the next best American in 12th, followed by Lindsay Van in 13th.
The women compete again today in Lake Placid before heading west to Park City for two more events, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
