MERIBEL, France — Norwegian skiers collected three of the six medals in the individual parallel events at the Alpine skiing world championships on Wednesday.

The men’s and women’s parallel provide drama throughout the four rounds, eight runs of competition. It was another warm day of blue skies in Meribel and the enthusiastic crowd showed up ready to loudly support the competitors. The parallel event proved to be exciting and fun to watch.

Maria Therese Tviberg of Norway and Alexander Schmid of Germany won gold in the women’s and men’s races. In the big final they defeated silver medalists Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener and Austria’s Dominik Raschner. In the bronze medal final, it was Norway’s Maria Therese Stjernesund who defeated the crowd’s favorite France’s Marie Lamure and on the men’s side, it was Norway’s, Timon Haugan who defeated Austria’s Adrian Pertl.

Holdener earned her second silver of the competition, having also finished second in the combined race that opened worlds.

Gold medalists in the mixed team parallel, Stifel US Alpine Team members Nina O’Brien and River Radamus were eliminated in the initial round of 16. O’Brien lost to Germany’s Lena Deurr by (+0.05). Radamus lost his first-round pairing to eventual small finalist Austrian Adrian Pertl.
