Since 2012 and now until 2018 thanks to a new agreement, Paganella Ski – Trentino in Andalo, Italy, will serve as the official European training center for the Norwegian alpine team. The entire team will make its logistical base for training in between competitions all over Europe in the province of Trentino. They elected Paganella as the ideal place for physical conditioning, to test equipment, and also to relax and recharge their batteries in preparation for major competitions.
The slopes of Paganella Ski are among the best known of the province thanks to cutting-edge innovations, its geographical position (close to Austria, Germany and Switzerland — homes to many races of the World Cup), and the nearby airport in Verona. The Norwegian national team will take advantage of training on the Olympic 2 slope and also Red Cloud, which will be reserved in dedicated time slots established according to the needs of the team.
“I knew already Andalo from my participation in the World Alpine Rockfest 2009, and I can’t wait to return there to have training on one of the most beautiful slopes of the Dolomites. Thanks to its proximity to major routes, I can spend periods of relaxation between one race and another,” said Aksel Lund Svindal. Although the injured skier will not see much training in Italy this winter, he has future years there to look forward to.
Olympic champion Kjetil Jansrud is also a fan of the area.
“I know Andalo well, and I’ve been here to train many times. Last year I even got up at four in the morning to come and train in Andalo (I was in Val Gardena for the World Cup). I also participated in the Alpine Rockfest: it’s not easy to find such well prepared slopes.”
Paganella Ski is well known as a favorite training center for many champions. Bode Miller and U.S. Ski Team had its European training base at Paganella for several years and now Aksel Lund Svindal and Norwegian 2014 Olympic medalists, Kjetil Jansrud and Henrik Kristoffersen, do now as of 2012.
Top Out Sport’s Phil McNichol, former head men’s coach of the U.S. Ski Team who now promotes the Alpine Rockfest event also held at Paganella, has been instrumental in the negotiations between the two parties and helped both reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
