OLN describes innovative production for Winter Gravity Games{mosimage}Stamford, CT (March 1, 2005) OLN® is introducing a new style of event coverage, coining the term ‘action-mentary’ to describe the Winter Gravity Games production. The stylized, documentary format will have OLN cameras shooting from non-traditional camera angles in a 16×9 ratio, which will give the coverage much more of a film feel than a conventional sporting event. OLN’s Winter Gravity Games presented by Saturn will take place from March 3rd 6th at Copper Mountain and feature 11 Snowboarding and skiing medal events. OLN will present eight hours of action-mentary coverage beginning March 27th from 9:30 PM 11:30 PM and March 28th – 30th from 9:00 11:00 PM ET/PT.

‘Viewers might be reminded of a Stacey Peralta [Riding Giants, Dogtown and Z-boys] or Dana Brown [Step Into Liquid, Dust to Glory] film, but have never seen a sporting event presented in this way in its entirety’ said John Carter, Vice President of Event Production and Executive Producer. ‘It’s a unique viewing proposition and a new take on event coverage. It is going to capture the energy and uniqueness of this event, while showcasing the amazing performances and athleticism of these competitors.’

The distinctive presentation will go behind the scenes to capture the athletes and the attitudes that make the event, and action sports in general, more than just sport. The culture surrounding action sports permeates every aspect of the event, and OLN’s action-mentary intends to illustrate those nuances that make the Gravity Games so unique.

‘This approach is going to distinguish the Gravity Games presentation from other sports events’ said Marc Fein, Senior Vice President of Programming and Production for OLN. ‘These are non-traditional sports and non-traditional athletes. We felt a new, dynamic presentation was only fitting.’

OLN’s Winter Gravity Games, airing on OLN March 27th, 9:30 PM 11:30 PM ET and March 28th – 30th, 9:00 PM – 11:00 PM ET/PT will feature 11 medal events, including: Men’s and Women’s Snowboard Halfpipe, Boardercross, Snowboard Slopestyle, Ski Halfpipe, and Skiercross, as well as Men’s Ski Slopestyle. OLN’s coverage of the Winter Gravity Games will include competitive action and athlete profiles, while highlighting the personalities, music and lifestyles of the people who are passionate about winter action sports.

Winter Gravity Games is a major extension of the franchise, following the 2004 Gravity Games, which were held in Cleveland, OH from Sept 15th 19th. The event featured 121 athletes and more than 125,000 fans in attendance. OLN televised extensive coverage of the four-day event.
