As the winter approaches and the ski enthusiasts gear up for another thrilling season, one of the names that stands out among US racers is Patrick Kenney. This year, Kenney is taking on the slopes as an independent athlete with Global Racing. Notably, he is also determined to overcome challenges that reach beyond the race course.
Patrick Kenney‘s current impressive FIS world GS rank is 67th. Previously, he has showcased his tenacity and skill competing in five World Cup GS races. However, his remarkable achievements have extended beyond the World Cup, and include a considerable track record on the Europa and NorAm Cup circuits. Notably, he has earned ten top-ten finishes and made a significant mark last season with a fourth-place finish at the Narvik Europa Cup in Norway.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Kenney’s goals are a testament to his ambition and vision. He has committed himself to a European campaign, competing on the Europa Cup circuit to meet the criteria for the 2024/25 Stifel US Ski Team. His ultimate aspiration for this season is to emerge as the top GS skier in the United States while consistently ranking within the top 15 on the highly competitive World Cup circuit.
Patrick Kenney’s journey to the World Cup has been truly exceptional. At age two, he began his ski racing odyssey at Attitash Resort in Bartlett, New Hampshire. Fast forward to 2015, when he proudly graduated from Burke Mountain Academy. After that, Kenney spent several years representing the US Ski Team before embarking on a new chapter of his life—pursuing an Economics degree at the University of New Hampshire.
During his time as a Wildcat, Kenney achieved remarkable success, earning the title of Two-Time All-American, collecting All-Academic awards, and taking on the roles of Team MVP and Captain. Now, breaking away from the conventional national team structure, Kenney is carving his path as an independent athlete. This path, however, presents a unique set of challenges. He grapples with financial constraints, navigates logistical hurdles, and makes do with limited resources as he tirelessly pursues his ambitions.
Due to the financial constraints and to help fund his 2023/24 season, Kenney has organized a golf tournament on October 2nd at Owl’s Nest Resort, New Hampshire. The event also aims to spotlight the challenges of independent athletes. He is expecting 130 attendees and seeks the support of the devoted ski racing community.
Kenney stated, “I am so excited to host my inaugural golf tournament. It will be a great day to gather my supporters and share my excitement for the season by playing at a gorgeous course like Owl’s Nest Resort (during foliage season!). I look forward to seeing everyone there! With awesome goodie bags, live and silent auction items and raffle items, there are plenty of ways to win, whether your golf game is dialed in or luck is on your side!”
Kenney found his tournament hosting inspiration in Warner Nickerson, who also organized a golf tournament years ago to bolster his ski season. Kenney’s event will serve as a platform to involve the wider skiing community in an enjoyable golf tournament while contributing to the aspirations of an independent athlete. Every contribution, whether it’s participating in the tournament, bidding on items in the silent auction, or spreading the word through Instagram shout outs and Facebook, makes a meaningful impact.
What distinguishes this tournament is the united effort of friends and family rallying to support his vision. Kenney’s dedicated committee has meticulously orchestrated the event. Supporting independent athletes requires a community effort; this event could not exist without them. Kenney’s sponsors have made his passion pursuit possible; they include SYNC, Winterfell, and 4T2D clothing, as well as his equipment sponsors, Völkl Skis, Dalbello Boots, Marker Bindings, Shred Optics, Ziener and Swix Sport.
*SYNC has long supported Kenney’s athletic and academic pursuits. SYNC firmly believes that
athletes should have the opportunity to pursue both high-level competition and education.
SYNC’s unwavering support highlights their commitment to this cause, demonstrating the
significant impact of their support on Kenney’s journey.”
