Program Director & Head Coach

Position Summary

The Pleasant Mountain Race Team (PMRT) is seeking an experienced, strategic, and collaborative Program Director & Head Coach to lead all aspects of our junior alpine ski racing program for the 2025–26 season and beyond.

This role serves as the visionary and operational leader of PMRT—responsible for driving the program’s strategy, overseeing day-to-day operations, and leading the coaching staff. The ideal candidate will blend strong technical coaching expertise with organizational leadership, staff development, and a deep commitment to athlete experience and growth.

Key Responsibilities

 Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight

  • Set and evolve the long-term vision and strategy for PMRT in partnership with the Board of Directors (BOD)
  • Develop a unified training philosophy aligned with USSA standards and long-term athlete development goals
  • Participate in BOD meetings and contribute to high-level planning, budgeting, and program design
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Pleasant Mountain leadership, MARA, and other key partners

 Coaching Program Management

  • Lead and manage the coaching program across all age groups (U8–U18)
  • Design and implement an age-appropriate training curriculum
  • Assign coaches to age groups based on skills and ratios; ensure appropriate coverage
  • Be actively present during training and race days, observing and supporting coaching quality
  • Serve as on-snow Head Coach for an age group of your choice

 Staff Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, hire, and retain qualified and passionate coaches
  • Set performance expectations and conduct periodic staff evaluations
  • Provide coaching mentorship, training, and growth opportunities throughout the season
  • Foster a team culture grounded in collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement
  • Monitor staffing needs, performance, and development and keep the BOD informed

 Athlete Experience & Team Culture

  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and fun environment that encourages athlete growth and love for the sport
  • Guide athlete development with structured feedback, motivation, and positive reinforcement
  • Address athlete behavior or injury situations in accordance with PMRT and USSA guidelines

 Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead consistent communication with:
    • Athletes and families
    • Coaching staff
    • PMRT BOD
    • Pleasant Mountain management
  • Provide weekly (minimum) schedule updates and important program information
  • Partner with the Operations Manager to streamline team communications
  • Utilize email, team platforms, and social media to ensure transparent and timely messaging

 Program Administration & Operations

  • Collaborate with the BOD Treasurer on budgeting, payroll, and financial oversight
  • Oversee documentation and licensing compliance for all staff
  • Approve and manage reimbursements for coaches and team-related expenses
  • Ensure representation at MARA meetings and race day coordination

 Team-Owned Equipment Oversight

  • Manage team-owned equipment inventory, condition, and availability
  • Make recommendations on equipment purchases, repairs, and replacements

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience leading ski racing or comparable youth sports programs
  • Deep understanding of USSA standards, alpine coaching methodology, and athlete development
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and people-management skills
  • Proven communicator and team builder with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
  • Passionate about developing athletes, supporting coaches, and building a strong team culture
  • Familiarity with electronic communication platforms and scheduling tools
  • Ability to commit to weekends, holidays, and travel as required during the season


Time Commitment & Compensation

  • Pre-Season Stipend – for planning, staffing, and program setup
  • In-Season Stipend – for oversight, operations, and coach leadership
  • Daily Coaching Compensation – for on-snow training and races



U8 to U16+ Coaching Requirements:

  • Must be available to coach every weekend and school vacation weeks December through March.
  • Requires a USSA ski racing background. 
  • Enthusiastic about working with children. 
  • Looking for a reliable individuals that are also responsible and a team player
  • Willing to travel to races in Maine and surrounding states.
  • Will need to complete Safe Sport and USSS Level 100 training.
