The U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) continued the 46th Collegiate National Championship on Saturday, March 15th. Due to snow and wind, the event organizers made the decision to cancel the Dual Alpine Ski Slalom and Nordic Team Relay scheduled for the day. Despite the persistent snow and wind during most of the week, these were the only two events that were cancelled.
A record-breaking 685 collegiate athletes representing 75 universities across 6 regions competed in the Cascade Mountains. This championship represented the best collegiate athletes from around the country. USCSA has member schools in every geographic region of the United States.
Events included Alpine Ski and Snowboard Giant Slalom, Alpine Ski and Snowboard Slalom, Dual Slalom, Cross-Country Sprints, Nordic Distance, Slopestyle, Skier and Snowboard Cross, and Rail Jam. Combined Team National Championships
For the week, Rocky Mountain College took home combined team National Championships for both men and women after winning all four team events. Babson College took second overall for the men and third for the women. Vermont State University at Castleton took second for the women, and Northern Michigan University placed third for the men.
After the conclusion of events, Northern Michigan University Head Coach Erik Lundteigen said, “We had a pretty good week at the Nationals. Our women skied well in the slalom event, taking 2nd place. Our men were 3rd in both slalom and GS, also 3rd overall. I appreciate all the hard work the USCSA crew does to pull off this great event.” Mads Fondevik Syversen from Babson College won the men’s individual combined and Eulalie Giraud from Rocky Mountain College won the combined title for the women.
Nordic Racing
Nordic racing concluded following the 15k Classic race on Friday. The University of Wyoming won the team combined championship for the men, followed by Colorado Mesa University in second and Paul Smith’s College in third.
For the women, St. Olaf College won the team championship with the University of Wyoming in second, followed by Western Colorado University in third. After their dual podium finishes, Christi Boggs, head coach for the University of Wyoming, said, “Our men’s team win was made possible by incredible dedication during the offseason coupled with a team dynamic that supported each and every skier to achieve their best. Our women exceeded expectations in every way. The challenging conditions brought out the grit in all our skiers. The organization, grooming, and setup by Mt. Bachelor Nordic was top notch and we couldn’t be happier with the event.” Lily Hubanks from St. Olaf College won the combined women’s individual championship for the week, while Iver Skaarseth from Colorado Mesa University won for the men.
Snowboarding Events
Snowboard Alpine events concluded with the slalom and giant slalom events on Thursday. The University of Wisconsin-Madison won the team combined championship for the men, followed by Lees-McRae College in second and UCLA in third place. For the women, Westminster University won the team championship for the women, followed by the University of Minnesota Duluth in second place and Lees-McRae College rounding out the podium in third.
Freestyle snowboard and freeski events also concluded after the slopestyle events held on Thursday and Friday. After three events, Westminster University won the men’s and women’s snowboard freestyle championships as well as the men’s freeski championship. Rocky Mountain College won the combined team women’s freeski championship.
After the events, Lees-McRae College Head Coach Aaron Maas said that, ” It was my pleasure to attend the 2025 USCSA National Championships at Mt. Bachelor. This is one of my favorite events; I look forward to attending every year. The USCSA staff always does a great job organizing the week-long series of events. This was demonstrated this year by shuffling around Saturday’s competitions due to the weather forecast. Not only did this keep us from cancelling some events, but it also provided an opportunity for those that could make it to the resort a wonderful powder day to end the season.”
