39-year-old Austrian Hannes Reichelt has suffered an ACL tear as well as a bony tear in the outer capsular ligament complex on the right knee. The injuries were discovered after an MRI scan on Saturday night in Innsbruck. Reichelt’s season is over.

Reichelt crashed out in Saturday’s Bormio downhill but was able to stand up and move around on his own power immediately following the crash. Reichelt was airlifted off the course due to the pain in his knee and made his way back to Austria that afternoon.

The speed specialist has been operated on by Karl Golser at the Kettenbruecke hospital in Innsbruck. According to Dr. Golser, the surgery went well.
