As feared, the MRI exam in Milan over the weekend confirmed that the Italian speed racer Johanna “Hanna” Schnarf sustained a tear of her ACL and meniscus in the right knee.

The 28-year-old crashed in GS training in Ushuaia, Argentina last week. It is not known at this time how long time Schnarf will need to recover and when the operation will take place.

Almost simultaneously, a teammate of Schnarf’s 27-year-old giant slalom specialist Camilla Alfieri announced her retirement from active competition. She indicates that her new project will include at least a master’s study in Trevisio.

Alfieri finished in the top 30 in the season rankings for giant slalom from 2008-2010 and managed two top ten finishes as her career best results (Sölden 2009, Lienz 2007). —FIS
