Who is racing, when, and how to watch the women’s Stifel Killington Cup slalom

In the riveting opening to the women’s World Cup slalom season in Levi, Finland, Petra Vlhova showcased her exceptional skills by securing the fastest time during both runs in the first race. The excitement continued into Sunday’s morning run, where Vlhova once again demonstrated her dominance. However, the competition took an unexpected turn in the second run on Sunday when, while leading, Vlhova unfortunately straddled, relinquishing the opportunity for a clean sweep. This twist of events added a dramatic element to the weekend’s races, highlighting the challenges and uncertainties in World Cup skiing.

As anticipation builds for the Stifel Killington Cup Slalom, the only women’s slalom event in North America, all eyes are on the reigning World Champion in SL, Candian Laurence ST-Germain, and the reigning world cup slalom champion, Mikaela Shiffrin. Competing on their home continent, ST-Germain, a University of Vermont alumna and former all-American for the Catamounts, brings her expertise to the race. At the same time, Shiffrin aims to defend her title with a victory on familiar terrain.

The roster also includes USA’s Paula Moltzan, a former University of Vermont skier and all-American athlete, who clinched her first World Cup podium last season and is ready for her inaugural victory. The competition promises excitement, with these skilled athletes navigating Killington’s challenging Superstar race venue. Looking back at last year’s Killington Slalom, Sweden’s Anna Swenn Larsson emerged triumphant, followed closely by Swiss athlete Wendy Holdener and Austrian Katharina Truppe, setting the stage for another captivating edition of this loved event.

Tomorrow, Sunday, November 26th, 66 women representing 19 nations will compete in the slalom.

Snow conditions are expected to be excellent for the races in Killington.

About Killington

In the early 1900s, Vermont embraced year-round tourism, kickstarting its ski industry with the Winter Olympics in 1932 and the Civilian Conservation Corps. Perry Merrill, the “Father of Vermont’s State Parks and Alpine Ski Areas,” spearheaded the creation of ski trails, fostering a partnership between the state and private developers. Fast forward to the 1950s, when ski enthusiast Preston Leete Smith’s determination led to the formation of the Sherburne Corporation. Despite challenges, including limited funds and weather setbacks, Killington Basin Ski Area opened on December 13, 1958, marking the beginning of Killington Resort’s legacy.
